This is. And thou art. There is no safety. There is no end. The word must be heard in silence. There must be darkness to see the stars. The dance is always danced above the hollow place, above the terrible abyss.
What’s your favorite canon moment of Elizabeth x George? :D

the moment where ross fell into a well and drowned to death and the whole village celebrated and george became the better person he was deep down under elizabeth’s influence and they all lived happily ever after!

but in all seriousness…it’s been so long since I thought of them bc it was honestly too painful to for a good long while. but they are very very dear to my heart. the best moment for them was the proposal, for sure…george baring his soul like that was astonishing and jack’s delivery and heida’s guarded but moved and sympathetic reaction were just gorgeous. still pisses me off they put ominous music in the background bc it didn’t fit the mood of the scene at all. and in the context of that depiction of his feelings, the wound-tending scene was even better. that was elizabeth deciding to try to understand him, and him allowing her to attend to his vulnerabilities, which he’s never ever let anyone else do. this relationship was deeply romantic without Debbie intending it to be thanks to the actors, especially Jack because of how he clearly saw George as a whole person rather than just a caricature. These two are happily married in my heart, always and forever. I will always love them and want the best for them.

Ask me about ships.

If you're still doing the ship asks: what's a ship you hate that most people like? what's your favourite headcanon of tulip/cassidy? and, what are your favourite AU ideas for tulip/cassidy? :D

oh boy a ship I hate that most ppl like…i don’t want any of you all to take this the wrong way but I cannot stand frank/karen from daredevil for a lot of reasons, all which have to do with the way karen is written and takes up space in the narrative as opposed to characters like elektra and claire, and the lack of psychological nuance in the ship regarding frank’s issues. ppl are always surprised bc this is the kind of relationship im usually into but if it’s not done right (imo), “broken people gravitate towards broken people” can be cringeworthy. I won’t lambast it bc I know a lot of you all love it and I’ve literally never talked abt it but there you go lol

my favorite headcanon for tulipcass…hmmm…it’s crazy how s2 brought a lot of my analysis of their relationship (which I wanted to believe was correct but very easily could’ve been headcanon if things had gone differently) into canon! that’s never happened to me before, at least not to the extent it did here. I guess my fav headcanon is that if they’d gone off to Bimini without Tulip dying, things would’ve been surprisingly good and they would’ve reconnected with Jesse eventually, but they’d take care of each other in the meantime and have some fulfilling adventures together.

my favorite AU ideas for tulipcass oh boy!!! well there’s always been the vampire Tulip idea that now the show itself made possible at the end of last season - that’s a great one. and there’s the idea that Tulip being brought back could allow her to be a sort of substitute reaper now that the original seems (?) to have been killed ( @undercover-coward came up with that one). There’s the wild west AU I want to write in which Tulip is a sort of Kissin’ Kate Barlow figure - I will definitely be bringing that into reality eventually, one way or another. The idea is that our heroes would be in the original Annville - Ratwater - with much else the same in terms of plot direction, just with lots of attention to period details but with the same wild irreverence, heightened reality, and magical realism of the original setting.

Ask me about ships.

ship asks: 1) what song(s) remind you of Sandor/Sansa? 2) favorite AU ideas for kaboom?

GREAT ASKS!!! Thanks for sending them :)

1. I actually have a mix for SanSan! If you listen, let me know what you think! In keeping with that, I think my favorite songs for them are Your Protector by Fleet Foxes and Mad Girl’s Love Song by Carol Anne McGowan (which reminds me of the “unkiss” - older Sansa coming to terms with what her interactions with Sandor mean to her now as she matures) - the lyrics are from the Sylvia Plath poem.

2. I need to finish that little Kaboom fic I was working on some time ago; I love writing them. I think a cool AU for them would be one set in the Victorian Era - sort of a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen thing where Tatsu is helping her father run his dojo and bc of underworld enemies her family has made they end up somehow hiring Digger as part of a mercenary company. He starts out as a necessary evil and gradually becomes something more important than that ofc.

Valentine Fandom Ask Meme: 16 and 23?

Thanks! :)

16 I answered here

23. Have you ever started shipping a ship because of the fans?

I started shipping Fiore and Deblanc from Preacher bc of the fantastic and completely on-point theories @meyerlansky posted about them early on in the series - and I never stopped! They are totally unique - two strange, angelic beings certain of nothing on man’s earth other than their absolute love and devotion for each other.

1. Your favourite non-canon ship?

Sansa/Sandor from A Song of Ice and Fire (I mean there’s definitely something going on there but it’s not explicitly canon and may never be - I do hope they reunite at some point and help each other as they can - they’ve both grown and changed so much emotionally and at least seeing each other again would probably be a cathartic experience).

7. A non-canon ship that should be canon?

Carol and Daryl from the Walking Dead! Seems like they’re going to get quite a bit closer to that on this week’s episode…

9. What ship represents the kind of relationship you’d love to have?

Elizabeth and Darcy - passionate, companionable, well-aware of each other’s strengths and weaknesses and desirous of loving them and working with them.

16. Is there a ship that made you realise something about yourself?

Not a single ship in particular but rather the general pattern I’ve noticed - a lot of my favorite ships involve characters who open each other up and whose connection forces them to question their identity in a way they never have before. It’s a dynamic I like - I like seeing characters self-actualize, especially if it helps them break out of harmful patterns. And doing that with a partner is cathartic and fulfilling, and beautiful to read and write about. And naturally, is an experience I’m sure I’d welcome irl.

17. Is there a type of ship you always go for?

I think my answer to 16. applies here - and in addition, I love when characters connect through shared passions and ideals and the recognition of the sublime in each other, whether simple or complex.

22. Is there a ship you’ll never admit you have?

I don’t talk much about being ok with some versions of Reylo here bc I think people would judge me pretty harshly for that. I’m not a hardcore shipper though; I don’t think we really know much about Rey as a person yet. We know Kylo and Finn much better as characters and I ship both of them with her - but Kylo only under certain circumstances.

25. I there a ship you wish you didn’t know existed?

Ramsay Bolton/Sansa Stark. Why…

26 & 29! :)

26. Name a ship that ended like you wanted it to.

In terms of a ship where canonically everything ended perfectly…Peter and Olivia from Fringe are a really good example. They had to fight to get her back, but they were reunited with their daughter, and they both finally achieved the happiness they’d put off for so long to protect the world they wanted her to grow up in. It’s a good ending because of the way the narrative beautifully structures their relationship over time and all that they’re willing to do for each other and their child, as well as their shared dedication to a world worth living in which is finally rewarded with the peace and contentment they so richly deserve.

29. What is the ship you ignore 98% of canon for?

Rust and Maggie on True Detective. Sorry Nic Pizzolatto but Maggie wouldn’t take advantage of Rust like that! Might I suggest the events in this fic instead? Yeah that’s much better

Alrighty then! 2, 3, 6, 11, 12, 13, 20, 24 and 28 please! :D

2. Is there a ship you didn’t like at first but ultimately started shipping?

There are lots that sort of creeped up on me but I didn’t really hate them at first per se. While I was reading Pride & Prejudice for the first time as a 14 year-old, though, I thought Darcy was a snot and then I was like…oh. Elizabeth and I were of one mind, lol, we’re very similar!

3. What is the rarest rare pair (that you ship)?

For a long time it was Bruce/Natasha in the MCU - they had this VIBE in the first Avengers movie and I felt so alone in recognizing it, but then it panned out largely to my satisfaction actually, in terms of the movie itself and controversially in terms of Nat’s character’s arc

6. What is your most angsty ship?

Oh man, this is tough. I like a lot of angsty ships! I guess the most angsty in terms of the narrative continually breaking down both people and separating them and throwing obstacles into their path to a frankly ridiculous extent is Carol and Daryl in the Walking Dead - they’ve been separated by fate and choice so many times and both of their histories of past abuse have kept them from acting on their emotions even when they’re actually in each other’s physical presence. But part of the beauty and uniqueness of their relationship is that they had this completely non-sexual relationship that grew by degrees of verbal and emotional intimacy and it made so much sense for them given their past trauma. And now they’re finally(???) going to act on their feelings and really no one deserves happiness in the form of another person more than they do

11.  What is a character you can only imagine in one particular ship?

Hmmmm…for me, I usually invest most of my interest in one ship per character and just focus on my preference. I’ve got nothing against multi-shipping but it’s actually really rare for me to be extremely invested in more than one romantic relationship for a character. I might be interested in the dynamics and significance of others, but I almost always end up with one favorite in the end. But I guess in terms of situations where I’d be very disappointed if the characters ended up with anyone else - Carol and Daryl in The Walking Dead, and any such similar situation in which the characters are huge parts of each other’s arcs and it would be narratively underwhelming for their story to go a different direction. It’s not so much that I can’t IMAGINE them with other characters, it’s just like…why would you write that lol

12. What is your favourite canon ship?

Let’s see…that’s probably a tie between Odesta (Finnick and Annie in the Hunger Games - honestly what beats this kiss scene that had me in tears? nothing) and Rebelcaptain in Rogue One, just in terms of the “completeness” of their arcs - the way in which great love, life, and death are encapsulated in them - there are SO MANY OTHER SHIPS I might love more for other reasons, but I really like the particular formation of these two ships’ canon arcs. lol wow I’m so morbid I’m sorry

13. Name a ship that deserved more content.

Finnick/Annie (Odesta)!!! Still waiting for Suzanne Collins to give me their lengthy backstory but for the time being, this fic will do

20. Have you ever created fan created content for a ship?

Have I? Oodles. If you count analysis, there’s a lot of that written by me here. And I’ve written my fair share of fic here - I think the Preacher and Poldark stuff is my best. I’ve dabbled in moodboards and aesthetics too, but I’m no deft hand.

24. What is one scene you want to see happen for all your ships?

They need to hold each other at some point, at a bare minimum. And please, let them touch each other’s faces. Physical protection/comfort and adoration and looking into each other’s eyes while combining the two and thinking “this person is mine and I am theirs” is VERY important.

28. Is there a character you have several ships for?

Hawke from the Dragon Age games. Even though Hawke/Anders is my endgame ship, I can’t help but throw in some Hawke/Fenris and would have that as endgame under particular AU circumstances. This is one of the few instances where I am truly invested in more than one ship for a character that isn’t one-sided.

4. Name a popular ship you don’t get the appeal of.

I honestly don’t get why anyone gets enjoyment out of Ross/D*melza (I like her; I’m only putting an asterisk in there so people don’t have to see it in the tags) in Poldark after all the Things That Happened in series 2/early on in the books (I loved them so much before but I’ve never noped out of a shipping fandom so fast after all that). Their relationship isn’t a portrait of an “imperfect but ultimately good” marriage it’s an uneven, unbalanced relationship between an immature, violent man and a goodhearted woman who deserves so much better. If I want an example of an “imperfect but ultimately good” marriage I’ll look to my parents, thanks.

14. Is there a ship you feel gets undeserved hate in fandom?

Jyn/Cassian aka rebelcaptain. People read the characters utterly wrong both as individuals and as a couple. I maintain that they’re the best-developed romance in the franchise. You don’t have to agree, but the extent to which people just blatantly misinterpret them is ridiculous.

30. Is there a ship you like but you dislike the fandom?

Please don’t kill me but if DONE RIGHT I do like Reylo (I also love Reyfinn, don’t @ me), but like 75% (at least) of the fandom is insufferable, both in terms of their behavior and in the particular way in which they ship it. I mean…most of the Star Wars fandom sucks so this isn’t really surprising

8. Your oldest ship; the one you’ve shipped for the longest time?
asked by elleluvsl

Thanks for sending this! That’s easy - Beauty and the Beast. In middle school, I would watch the Disney version every single time we had a snow day. One year, we had so many, that my sister got totally sick of it lol - sick of watching it, sick of me singing every single song, sick of me pausing on and rewinding to the parts I found most beautiful or poignant. And yes, it is a problematic fairy tale (as most are), and yes, I tend to like riffs on, incarnations of, and subversions of this fairy tale in many of my favorite (potentially) romantic relationships. But there’s a reason that that trope is so interesting to me - to quote one of my favorite pieces of meta on the subject, it’s sort of a female power fantasy:

“The thing that’s great about a beauty and the beast story isn’t that the beast can protect the beauty. It’s not even that eventually the beast becomes a prince. It’s that beauty saves the beast. Beauty is the one with the real power. Beauty is stronger than the beast, not because she can fight him, not even because she attracts him, but because she is kinder than him, and better than him, and more empathetic, and more forgiving, and those traits — traits disdained by the hypermasculine violent world in which a beast must live — force him to reconsider everything. Force him to become a new man. And that’s a good story. Big strong misunderstood guy protects helpless but beautiful girl? That’s B.S. and I don’t want to read it.”
